Chemical staining, also know as "Acid Etching", is a method of permanently coloring and altering the appearance of new or existing concrete. The chemical stain does not sit on the surface, but rather burns into the matrix of the concrete. Resulting in a beautiful variegation similar to the natural patina of stone or marble. Chemical staining will note fade or peel.
What are the most common uses for "Chemical Staining"?
- Commonly used for residential floors, galleries, restaurants and retail stores.
- It can also be used for patios driveways, pool decks and retaining walls.
Is this a new product?
- Although most people have only recently become aware of chemical staining, it has been used since the turn of the century. The "Big Sur Inn" California was stained in the early 1900'S and the floor still looks great today. Chemical staining is used extensively in Las Vegas, specifically in "Caesars Palace" retail mall area because of it's beauty and durability.
Why use a chemical stain as opposed to other methods of coloring concrete?
- Chemical staining is accomplished after the concrete is cured, therefore it can be applied to new or old concrete. For renovations as well as new construction. Floors can be saw cut and grouted to achieve the appearance of slate, marble or terra cotta tiles.
